Cardinal Ennio Antonelli was born on November 18, 1936, in Italy. He was ordained a priest on 2 April 1960. He From 1968 until 1983, he taught theology and art history in Assisi. He was elected bishop of Gubbio in 1982. In 1988, he was appointed as Archbishop of Perguia-Citta della Pieve. He resigned as Archbishop in 1995 and in 2001 was appointed Archbishop of Florence. He was elevated to Cardinal on October 21, 2003 and was appointed Cardinal-Priest of St. Andrew Delle Fratte. On 7 June 2008, he was appointed President of the Pontifical Council for the Family, from which office he retired 26 June 2012.
