ALOHA FROM HAWAII

JULY 31, 2014:

It was a long, beautiful, moving and historic day in Hawaii with the enshrinement of the remains of St. Marianne Cope in the Honolulu cathedral. I posted 3 of the videos I did, in addition to the one yesterday that I did before her remains in the convent of St. Francis. Just a note tonight. In recent days I've written about the remains of St. Marianne Cope being returned to her beloved Hawaii where they will be enshrined in Honolulus cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. I am overjoyed to tell you that I will be at that July 31 ceremony!

I leave Sunday for Chicago and then Tuesday for Honolulu for what promises to be a very exciting time a bit of work, and some quality vacation time in a heavenly spot with some marvelous friends. One of those friends, Vince Sava, a forensic anthropologist who led the team that exhumed Mother Marianne Copes body in 2005 for her beatification, was the person who wrote recently to tell me that St. Mariannes remains were being returned permanently to Hawaii. Vinces email and letters from other friends - convinced me that, after all my visits to the islands to research Saints Damien and Marianne (and a potential third saint, Brother Joseph Dutton) it was only right that I be there for this ceremony!

Ill be able to share this great moment with my Hawaiian ohana or family a big and wonderful family that includes people whose lives have intertwined with the lives of Kalaupapas two saints - Sisters from the same order as St. Marianne, Vince Sava and Audrey Toguchi whose miraculous cure of lung cancer was credited to the intercession of St. Damien who preceded Marianne on Kalaupapa in his work with victims of leprosy.

After Hawaii, Ill be in Alabama for some work at EWTN and also to attend the annual Family Celebration weekend on August 16 and 17. If you come to Birmingham for that event, make sure to look me up! I intend to post an occasional blog while away, as well as updates on Facebook and Twitter and some videos on my Youtube page.

Stay in touch! In the meantime God sit on your shoulder!
