MEETING OF THE HOLY FATHER WITH FAMILIES
Eternal Word Television Network will provide coverage of the Second World Meeting of the Holy Father with Families on October 4-5, 1997 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. LIVE commentary from EWTNs studio will be hosted by Raymond Arroyo, EWTNs News Director and Father Augustine Mary Hedderman, MFVA.

The Festive Meeting at Maracaná Stadium is the first of two appearances of the Holy Father with families from around the world. Families representing many regions of the world include: Mexico, Argentina, Australia, Japan, and Spain will symbolize the value and commitment of the family and the gift of life. Gianna-Emanuela and Laura Molla from Italy will remember their mother, Gianna who the Holy Father beatified in 1994. Blessed Gianna offered her life for the life of her child, Gianna-Emanuela during childbirth in April, 1962. Other presentations will include a performance by the Taiwan Youth Ballet, South Africas musical legend, Miriam Makeba, who has performed for the Holy Father and is known in Australia, United Kingdom, Tunisia, and the United States, Italian musicians, Al Bano and Romina, and many more. The Eucharist Celebration in the Aterro do Flamengo with Pope John Paul II celebrating Holy Mass is the concluding event for the 2nd World Meeting of the Holy Father with Families. During the Mass, the choir will consist of young people from parishes and schools in the Archdiocese of Rio. Couples will renew their marriage vows ensuring the sanctity of the Sacrament of Marriage. Many families from around the globe will participate in this final celebration to exemplify the sacredness of life and the family. An estimated 2 million people are expected to be in attendance.
