celebrate his feast on May 18. Saint Leonard was a prophet: His
work for social justice placed him squarely in line with other
luminaries of his time: Saints John Bosco, Joseph Cafasso, and
Joseph Cottolengo. At his canonization, Pope John Paul II
stressed that he was honored both for his personal holiness and
for the social activities inspired by his virtue. |

PURGATORY: THE DOGMA EXPLORED:
EP. 13 |
0:30 |
We avoid purgatory by receiving
sanctifying and actual grace and dying in this state. This
"grace' is a gift from God and through it we receive a share in
God's life. We first receive this grace in baptism, where
original sin is cleansed from our souls. But due to original
sin, we are left with a residual "damage," a propensity or
inclination toward sin. We fight this inclination and avoid
purgatory by frequent reception of the sacraments, especially
Penance, Holy Communion, Confirmation and by acts that are found
in the handbook of Indulgences such as prayers, novenas,
performing the corporal or spiritual acts of mercy and other
devotions. |
