Health Insurnce
Question from Delia Medeiros on 11/14/2016:

My daughter in 21 years old , she is a virgin, Kaiser , our health insurance, said for her to have a Pap smeir. I'm worried because she is single. Will she lose her virginaty? I just don't want it to be a sin. Please give me an answer as soon as possible. Thanks, and God Bless. Delia Medeiros

Answer by Judie Brown on 11/20/2016:

Dear Della,

This response is from Anthony Dardano, MD: rest assured, a Pap smear does not cause "loss of virginity". Loss of virginity comes through the act of sexual intercourse and not a bona fide medical examination. I have done thousands of Pap smears in my career, many on celibate, virginal women, many of whom were Roman Catholic nuns. Therefore have the exam with a clear conscience because it is beneficial to your overall health and there is absolutely no sin involved whatsoever.

May God bless you for your good intentions.

Anthony N Dardano, MD, FACS, FACOG
