The eternal birth of Christ before time
Question from Rob Auten on 4/15/2017:

We confess that the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son, or through the Son, in eternity. Would it also be correct to say that the Son is begotten of the Father through the Holy Spirit or with the love of the Holy Spirit in eternity? This would be similar to the way that we believe Jesus was born in time of Mary as the Son of the Father but through the power of the Holy Spirit? If the two other persons of the Trinity are both involved in Jesus' birth in time, are they also both involved in his eternal generation? Thank you.

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 4/16/2017:

Dear Rob,

Christ became a baby in time. Before his birth of Mary he was the Second Person of the Holy Trinity.

Dr. Geraghty
