Question from jimgathua on 1/24/2014:

Why do we catholics pray to Mary, Joseph, Gabriel, Michael; i thought we should pray to xrist/God only?

am a catechumen who completed just a few months ago, i was wondering why there isn't much biblical preaching like protestants?

do catholics believe in free- prayer?

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 3/16/2014:

Dear Jim,

I would have thought that you got those questions answered in the RCIA program. But some programs are not very good about dealing with such questions. Is there any program available that does answer these questions? Do you know any Catholics who are able to explain things? That's the way to go about getting detailed answers to your questions. And you can get information on the INTERNET. Check out the communion of saints, devotion to the Blessed Mother, liturgical prayer and free prayer, the place of the Bible. Get some books on the subject. But the best thing is to talk to a Catholic who knows the teachings of the Church.

Dr. Geraghty
