civil law marriage
Question from Anonymous on 3/16/2012:

Can a couple married and living together in an unconsumated civil law marriage still be able to receive the Eucharist while waiting the six month to be married in the church?

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 4/12/2012:

Dear Anon,

If they were living like brother and sister, as the canonists say,it would be OK as long as there was no danger of giving scandal. This would be difficult in small towns where everybody tends to know what everybody else is doing. Check with the Pastor on this.

Dr. Geraghty
