The Rapture
Question from Colleen Sullivan on 1/13/2014:

Do Catholics believe in the Rapture and how is it defined according to the scriptures? A friend of mine was raised Catholic in Trinidad and Tobago and she was taught the Rapture, put the fear of God in her. I told her that today the Catholic Catechesis does not teach the Rapture. Would you kindly clarify the teaching on this concept?

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 2/16/2014:

Dear Colleen,

The Catholic Church has never taught the "Rapture". Neither did the first Protestants in the Sixteen Century. The Rapture is and invention of the late Nineteenth Century.

Dr. Geraghty
