INSTITUTION OF THE SACRAMENT
Question from MARY on 4/8/2012:

Does Jesus institute the sacrament by participating in it like with baptism he got baptized by john the baptist. if so, than how he institute the sacrament of marriage if he never got married? Also, was the sacrament of confession institute when the Good thief Confess to Jesus while on the cross?

thank you!

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 4/20/2012:

Dear Mary,

A sacrament is a visible sign instituted by Christ to give grace. Christ did not need to be baptized, confirmed, forgiven, married or ordained. He is the fullness of grace. But we need those graces in our lives.

Dr. Geraghty
