Lent ends
Question from Joe on 3/17/2014:

Not trying to be picky here, just need clarification. I was taught that in earlier times Lent ended on Holy Saturday. I now understand that Lent ends with the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. At that time, the Triduum (a separate liturgical season) begins and lasts until evening prayer on Easter Sunday. Thanks for taking my question.

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 3/26/2014:

Dear Joe,

Like you, I though Lent ended on Holy Saturday. I was not aware that it really ends on Holy Thursday, which starts the Triduum. At any rate the fasting and abstinence holds for Good Friday. Thanks for your note.

Dr. Geraghty
