I have an upcoming family wedding, which will be a Mass. An openly gay relative of the bride will attend. What should I do if/should he attempt to receive the Eucharist? I do not know if the priests at the parish are aware, but everyone else is. In light of the Maryland instance where a priest refused to give Communion to an openly gay family member at a funeral Mass, should I concern myself with the matter? I have reflected on this without any contacts with immediate family members, but would not hesitate to inform the parish or speak to the homosexual relative about my concerns. Any guidance would be appreciated.

If you are the groom, or one of the parents of the bridal couple, you can ask the celebrant to make an announcement that before Communion is distributed that Communion guidelines can be found on the inside front-cover of the missalettes parishes stock in pew pockets. If you are someone else who is close to the couple and/or their parents, you could suggest to them that they do so.
