Ash Wednesday
Question from Rhonda on 3/5/2014:

If you are sick, is it okay to have chicken soup on Ash Wednesday?

Answer by Catholic Answers on 3/7/2014:

Rhonda--

If a person absolutely must have a certain food on a day of fast due to a medical condition, he may have it. But since chicken soup is not a necessary cure, and is usually consumed as a comfort food during a minor illness, it would be more in keeping with the spirit of the day for the ill person to substitute another non-meat soup (e.g., vegetable soup).
