chances of conceiving
Question from joan on 6/28/2013:

Dear Judie, I have very irregular cycles, I skip at least four per year. Will this hurt my chances of conceiving? Thanks, joan.

Answer by Judie Brown on 7/6/2013:

Dear Joan

I asked Dr Anthony Dardano about your question and here is his reply:

Irregular cycles can be a cause of infertility depending on why the cycles are irregular in the first place. This can be determined by a variety of blood tests, etc. I however would not seek formal work up until married and unable to conceive for one year.

The cause is usually treatable, again by a variety of methods. The most common would be the use of clomid which when taken a few days each cycle produces ovulation. Another common cause is the production of too much testosterone by your ovary which negates the ovulation trigger. This too is correctable. I am assuming that major medical conditions such as thyroid dysfunction or diabetes have been ruled out.

I hope this does address your concerns. May God bless you.
