if the Church had told all gov representatives and judges at the ntime of roe vs wade - that all those who were Catholics and voted for the amendment would be excommunicated--the abortion concern would not be where it is today--I blame the Catholic Church and those Bishops for not being responsible enough to have done what was morally right--God help us from such weak people in our Church----40000 babies dead--my question--why the lack of leadership???????????????/

Indeed there is a great deal of truth to what you say. Noone can know where we might be today if the Bishop had remained as strong in their resolve as they were in 1974 when Cardinal Madeiros spoke for the entire Bishops conference and told the Senate, among other things, "A ʺstates rightsʺ amendment, which would simply return jurisdiction over the abortion law to the states, does not seem to be a satisfactory solution to the existing situation. Protection of human life should not depend on geographical boundaries. The Supreme Courtʹs action itself has made abortion a federal question."

He testified in favor of a personhood amendment! Today Bishops run away from the idea. It is indeed a tragedy.
