using grain for fuel
Question from Joseph Hammon on 4/28/2013:

what is the church's view on the use of corn and other food sources for fuel when we have starving people in the world? Thank you for your time.

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 8/18/2013:

Dear Joseph,

Science makes it possible to turn corn and other food sources into gasoline. When this practice becomes wide spread, the price of food goes up to such an extent that the poor are adversely affected. The Church condemns this practice. The evil is not in turning food into fuel. It is in affecting the market so that the poor are not able to feed themselves. That's the sin.

Dr. Geraghty
