Missing Mass and Communion
Question from Kathy on 9/18/2013:

I was always taught that if I miss Sunday Mass I cannot receive Communion again until I go to confession. A family friend told me that this isn't true any longer. Can you please clarify?

Answer by Catholic Answers on 9/19/2013:

Kathy--

It depends on why you missed Sunday Mass. If you had just reason (e.g., illness, care for the ill, job obligations), then there is no sin in that and you need not go to confession for that. But if you deliberately skipped Mass without just reason to do so, then yes, you do need to go to confession before receiving Communion.
