Choosing a saint name for confirmation
Question from Deborah Sutton on 11/19/2013:

The child is being confirmed this March 15th,2014 who wanted to choose John Paul II as his confirmation name. Though he will not be canonized until April 2014. Can he have John Paul II as his confirmation name or would he have to choose another name that all ready canonized?

Answer by Fr. Jay Toborowsky on 11/20/2013:

There are no universal guidelines about names chosen at Confirmation. The best bet is to discuss this with the parish's religious education director, and/or the pastor of the parish.
