Question from Dolly on 08-20-2013:

A widow and widower who are in their sixties chose to cohabitate. They share a bed yet live a chaste life. Good friends and close companions who may occasionally hug and hold hands. They are always there for each other with support and caring for family. Is this acceptable?

Answer by Catholic Answers on 08-22-2013:

Dolly--

No, and they are not living "a chaste life." Living chastely for single people means that such a person does not cohabitate with a person with whom there is a romantic relationship. It also means that scandal is not given to others by public displays of affection and by letting the world know that an unmarried couple is sharing a bed.
