EWTN Catholic Q&A
Jesus as Son of Man
Question from Ray Vallimont on 01-25-2014:

Why did Jesus refer to Himself as the Son Of Man? I see no significance. I always refer to Him as the Son Of God. Where does the Son of Man reference come from? Ray

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 01-30-2014:

Dear Ray,

Christ is definitely a man because he was born of a woman who was a descendant of Adam and Eve. Being the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, he can be called the Son of the Father. Being the son of a mother, he can also be called a Son of Man, a term used by Christ Himself.
