POPE TO CANONIZE POLISH NUN ON SUNDAYVatican City, 26 (NE) Pope John Paul II will canonize this
Sunday April 30 Blessed Faustina Kowalska. The celebration,
expected to gather large groups of Polish pilgrims, will take
place the second Sunday of Easter, in which the feast of Divine
Mercy is also celebrated, devotion which Blessed Kowalska help
began during the 1930's. Blessed Kowalska was born in 1905, and
entered in 1925 the Congregation of Our Lady of Mercy. Some
years afterwards, she saw a vision, encouraging her to promote
the devotion to the Divine Mercy. She died in 1938. The rapid
healing of a Baltimore priest who suffered a serious heart
condition in 1995 was the miracle necessary for Blessed
Kowalska's canonization. Father Ronald Pytel, the priest who was
healed, will be attending the canonization ceremony on Sunday. Click here to share this news story with a friend. |
