INDIAN POLICE KILL WITNESS TO PRIEST'S MURDERArchbishop Concessao of Agra Presents Formal Complaint to Court NEW DELHI, (ZENIT.org).- The Christian Forum for Human
Rights and Archbishop Vincent Concessao of Agra, India, accused
the Indian police a few days ago of the death of an eye-witness
of the killing of Fr. George Kuzhikandam on June 7. During a press conference, Archbishop Concessao said that he has
presented a denunciation to the court over the death of Vijay
Ekka, 23, a cook of the Assisi Ashram, a center of spirituality
and welcome, who, having witnessed the killing of Fr.
Kuzhikandam, was first subjected to constant vigilance in
Mathura, a city in northern India. The Archbishop said that Ekka was subsequently taken to the
police section; without any accusation he was tortured several
times until he died. The young victim, who left behind a wife,
pregnant with their first child, expressed fear of being killed
by the police during his days of arrest. The region of Mathura, where this dramatic event took place, has
recently been the scene of violence against Christians, which
culminated with the murder of Fr. Kuzhikandam. To date, the
perpetrators of the crime remain unpunished. Unfortunately, the
situation of Christians in India is worsening. Since the
beginning of the year, 35 attacks against priests and Christian
organizations have been recorded.
