Radio Message to the French People (30 May 1980)

Author: Pope John Paul II

On Saturday evening, 30 May 1980, the Holy Father broadcasted a message from the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris to all the French people.

This evening, after having celebrated Mass in the heart of the French capital in front of Notre-Dame de Paris, I think of all those who would have liked to take part in this gathering around the Pope or in the celebrations that will follow, but who are confined to their homes: to the sick, to all those who are in their hospital beds, to whom I wish comfort and peace; the disabled and their families; to the prisoners, whom I visit in spirit and to whom I wish faith in God's mercy, hope and the faithful support of their families; to workers whose schedules of employment or tour of public service do not easily allow them to associate themselves with such demonstrations; finally to all those who, for other reasons, cannot satisfy their desire to see or hear the Pope. To all of you, dear friends, I tell you my esteem,

Goodnight all!
