To Live Each Day with Dignity
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
This document, approved on 16 June 2011 by the USCCB meeting in Seattle, offers a brief history of the development on debates regarding physician assisted suicide. It affirms that the drive to legalize this crime does not enhance the freedom of those with serious health conditions. "When people are tempted to see their own lives as diminished in value or meaning, they most need the love and assistance of others to assure them of their inherent worth," rather than suggesting to them that, because of their decreased productivity, they would be better off dead.
