2011-03-18

Irondale, AL (EWTN) – EWTN will re-air in its entirety the first official Mass of Archbishop Jose Horatio Gomez as fifth Archbishop of Los Angeles at 3 p.m. ET, Sat., March 19. The 1 hour 16 minutes celebration, which took place March 4 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, is part of EWTN’s ongoing series, “Cathedrals Across America.”

Archbishop Gomez, who served as CoAdjutor in the Archdiocese from April 6, 2010 until his installation on Feb. 27, 2011, is the first Hispanic to serve as Archbishop of Los Angeles, as well as the highest-ranking Hispanic bishop in the United States.

Archbishop Gomez is an inspiring and courageous homilist. His brilliant Nov. 21, 2008 address to the Orange County Catholic Prayer Breakfast, is well worth reading, http://bit.ly/gnZGIo.
