Irondale, AL (EWTN) – The international Spanish-language service of EWTN Global Catholic Network launched June 1, 2008 in Buenos Aires and the Greater Buenos Aires area and in La Plata on Cablevisiόn & Multicanal’s digital platform. EWTN El Canal Catolicó will now be delivered via the largest cable system in Argentina’s capital, 24 hours a day, on channel 416.

While EWTN has been available in Buenos Aires for a few hours a day since 1996, this new 24 hour launch was made possible thanks to the many requests from viewers.

“It’s about time,” said Héctor Aguer, Archbishop of La Plata, Argentina. “A lot of people were requesting it throughout the country. We now have the possibility of satisfying viewers who want programs that deal with important matters and that help us to be better persons. I am very happy. I celebrate that EWTN is now available 24 hours a day. I express my satisfaction with a blessing to all. Let us hope that these transmissions bear fruit in the hearts of the people.”

Mario Luis Bautista Mauliόn, Archbishop of Paraná and President of the Social Communications Commission of the Argentine Episcopal Conference, also applauded the news.

“I am very satisfied with EWTN’s work in transmitting the Church’s message in its varied programs, particularly in its news programs, and with the Network’s presence during Papal events and events involving the Universal Church,” he said. “EWTN’s excellent way of evangelizing allows many, who may not even go to Church, to have access to testimonies about our Faith. Now that the service will be expanded to the entire region through Cablevisiόn & Multicanal, I encourage EWTN to continue this work with the Lord’s blessing and with the sincere support of this humble shepherd.”

When he visited Buenos Aires, Michael P. Warsaw, President of EWTN, said he found “a wonderful, vibrant community with a strong faith.” So he was especially pleased to learn that Argentinians would now have EWTN’s programming available for their families.

EWTN Global Catholic Network, in its 27th year, is available in nearly 150 million television households in more than 140 countries and territories. With its direct broadcast satellite television and radio services, AM & FM radio networks, worldwide short-wave radio station, Internet website www.ewtn.com and publishing arm, EWTN is the largest religious media network in the world.
