EWTN Global Catholic Network Celebrates the 10-Year Anniversary of “Nuestra Fe En Vivo”
Irondale, AL (EWTN) – EWTN Global Catholic Network will celebrate the 10th anniversary of “Nuestra Fe En Vivo” by broadcasting 14 of the best shows from the past decade during the program’s anniversary week, Sept. 1 – 7. In addition, the show’s first guest will return for a special one-hour episode, Sept. 8.
“Nuestra Fe En Vivo” has become the flagship program for the Network’s international Spanish language channel, EWTN El Canal Católico, and the Network’s U.S. Spanish language channel, EWTN Español. In the past 10 years, these channels, complemented by EWTN Radio Católico Mundial and EWTN’s Spanish-language website, have become the most widely distributed Spanish language religious channels in the world.
“The main idea of the show is to inspire the Catholic who is cold or lukewarm or who is not exactly living his or her faith fully; to show them that Catholicism should be a lifestyle,” said Jose “Pepe” Alonso, who has hosted the show since it began in September 1998.
Guests on the show, which is broadcast live Mondays on television and radio and airs again the other six days of the week, include Cardinals, Bishops, musicians, actors, laity – anyone with a good story about how they are living their faith.
EWTN Director of Spanish Production Enrique Duprat said the first live episode of “Nuestra Fe En Vivo” showcased Jorge Serrano Limόn, a famous pro-life figure from Mexico. However, the only thing live about the guest was his voice since viewers saw only his photo. On Monday, Sept. 8, Limόn will finally have the opportunity to appear in person on the show he helped to inaugurate a decade ago.
Host Alonso, who is originally from Mexico City, first came in contact with EWTN while working with the Charismatic movement in Ann Arbor, Mich. He began by doing “fillers” for what was then EWTN’s new Spanish channel.
Shortly thereafter, EWTN asked Alonso – now working in Miami as director of an association whose mission was to train Catholic evangelizers – to co-host the Pope’s visit to Cuba. Ultimately, he would host EWTN’s flagship Spanish show. Each time the producers asked Alonso to try something new, he would say: “Are you crazy? I have no experience.” But Alonso is now one of the most well-known and well-loved Spanish-language religious television hosts in the world.
